Performance
On modern cars the CB-26P device works in at least two distinct ways to improve performance, it collapses the manifold vacuum allowing briefly for a richer mixture on the re-application of a trailing throttle - thus significantly improving throttle response
Petrol Consumption
Improved petrol consumption is the 'Holy Grail' of motoring gadgets - many have claimed it but few have proved it conclusively due to the lack of exact repeatability in practical tests. The Ecotek CB-26P has long been acknowledged to be capable of improving fuel consumption on older cars but these effects are considerably reduced in modern EFi cars where combustion is controlled electronically - the more modern the car the the tighter and more accurate the controls.
Emissions
Emissions have become a number one priority in Europe to combat increased Global Warming as a result of Greenhouse gasses such as Carbon Monoxide (CO) and Carbon Dioxide (CO2). The MoT emission test is not a fully comprehensive test as it only measures hydrocarbons, CO and the Lambda (Oxygen in the exhaust, thus the air fuel ratio) and in certain cases the CB-26P has been used to help problem cars through the test.
The effects of the CB-26P have been comprehensively tested in the Prodrive Laboratories and they concluded: "The addition of the Ecotek CB-26P device saw a reduction in both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions in all cases".
